Francesca Piñol is passionate about the way many cultures explain their cosmogony through weaving, combining threads, colors, textures, shapes, and symbols. Her studio, Laboratori Textil, is a space for research and experimentation on natural color and digital weaving.

Her works are fabrics made from photographs or digital images, with which she creates woven images. She weaves on a state-of-the-art digital handloom, the TCII, based on Jacquard technology. This loom combines the digital weaving preparation process with manual creation, providing agility, customization, and the memory that handwork confers to the pieces.

She combines artistic and textile creation with teaching and research. 

The workshop is a monograph on digital jacquard fabrics and textures made with the TC2 loom, with a pathway that shows the entire jacquard technology process from design to fabric creation. Starting with an image of your choice, you work until it is woven using the TC2 digital loom (Thread Control Digital Weaving), putting all the steps of the process into practice. A brief introduction to the loom’s operation is also provided.

You begin with a digital image, which is prepared for the chart layout, the technical drawing that allows you to weave it on the loom. To do this, the weaves are created, and a texture test is woven. Once the most appropriate textures have been chosen, they are applied to the image, and the design is woven. At the end of the workshop, the goal is to take home your own design woven on the digital loom, complete the weave and texture tests, and become familiar with the jacquard technology process.

The workshop will be taught in Spanish. Participants must bring a graph paper notebook for notes and a personal computer with Photoshop installed.
